AYDEN'S UPDATES
Ayden's family wanted to keep a blog for family members and friends to be able to have the latest status of his progression at the hospital. On August 1st, the family was out in the yard and soon noticed Ayden was missing and was discovered by Aubrey in the above ground pool. Caryn pulled him out and was able to resuscitate him thru CPR and he had a pulse and was breathing as the medics took him away in the ambulance to the hospital. He is currently at St. Lukes downtown Boise. We will try to update on a daily basis or as something significant happens. We also are so very thankful to everyone for your love, prayers, fasting and all the support you have given to the Rich family and extended family at this time.

Thursday afternoon
The doctor just left and again the biggest goal right now is to get Ayden's lungs better. His pneumonia has worsened a bit but he is still responding well to the antibiotics. We saw pictures of his lungs and the secretions are a bit more extensive or throughout his lungs. He, of course, will still have to be intubated until the pneumonia clears. The doctor did say to not be surprised if the pneumonia worsens a bit before it gets better and for now that seems to be what is going on. They will be giving him a heavier dose of his sedation medication to help keep him calm. It is really important that he doesn't get agitated because if he moves around it causes the tube in his throat to move back and forth which will cause swelling and if there is any sign of swelling they will not be able to extubate him.He is tolerating his feedings really well (through his feeding tube), which goes through his nose down into his stomach. Adyen is a bit puffy right now, which is common. They are going to restart his medication, the diuretic, that will help him pee off (like that word, mom? The doctor said it) the water he is retaining.Just a few minutes prior to the doctor coming in Ayden started to stir and kick his legs around. We all went to his side and then Caryn told him that we were all there and then said, "Can you kick Aunt Janet and he started kicking his legs and then Caryn asked him to open his eyes and he brought his arm up and smacked Caryn in the head.It is fun to see him responding like this albeit is not good at this time for him to be agitated but we must admit it does bring a sense of relief to see him responsive to his mom's voice. The doctor still feels optimistic about him neurologically.

Aubrey, I love what you said about Ayden. You know, we should get Ayden some chocolate Costco "Fuffins" as soon as he can eat again!
